A talent-hunt portal named The Script Craft has been launched by Prabhas to spot the writing and directorial talent of the future. A few well-known production houses are associated with the project.
While the intent is sincere, the whole design and process are faulty. It is over-democratic and, therefore, prone to blunders. Democracy is not needed everywhere.
The story with the highest number of votes and/or rating gets the prize. Needless to say, the process is prone to being abused by the smart folks out there. Anything can be gamed if you can get one hundred friends, friends of friends and relatives to vote for your write-up on the site.
A script-writing contest has been launched as a first stept. The writer can submit a copy running up to 3,500 words. Nobody wants to read over-long passages in this age of Twitter, where people are too lazy to read 280 characters, forget thousands of words.
Writing as a mode is alien to many talented folks. Real talents might be good at verbal narration but not in writing. In any case, democratization (through the voting process) makes everything random. Non-experts are going to vote for ideas they may read incompletely or superficially.
The Script Craft needs a total redesign and rethink.
