Star heroine Samantha Ruth Prabhu has appealed to the Telangana government to make public a sub-committee report on sexual harassment from 2019. She believes that releasing the report can “help frame government and industry policies” to ensure a safe working environment for women in the Telugu film industry. The ‘Majili’ actress stated her views via Instagram.
She made the request in light of the Hema Committee report related to the Malayalam film industry. Applauding the “persistent efforts” of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) in Kerala for “laying the path to this moment”, the ‘Rangasthalam’ actress reminded that The Voice of Women was set up taking a cue from the WCC. The Voice of Women is a support group for women in Tollywood.
Samantha is the only prominent figure in the Telugu film industry to publicly address the unpublished committee report. Its release could potentially have significant consequences.
