Srinivas Avasarala expressed his growing confidence in the upcoming Telugu horror thriller “Pindam” after being impressed by Sai Kiran Daida’s short film “Smoke.” The film, directed by Saikiran Daida, is set to release globally on December 15, featuring Srikanth Sriram, Kushee Ravi, Srinivas Avasarala, Easwari Rao, and Ravi Varma in key roles. Here are the highlights from Srinivas Avasarala’s interview:
Q) What was your initial reaction to the script of “Pindam”?
A: When Sai Kiran narrated the story, I had also recently watched his work, “Smoke.” The unexpected twist in the short film’s end impressed me, showcasing Sai Kiran’s ability to captivate viewers’ attention.
Q) Did you provide any input regarding the title ‘Pindam’?
A: I didn’t offer any suggestions initially. However, upon hearing the title during the narration, which revolves around the death of an unborn child and the transformation of a girl into a wandering spirit, I raised concerns about it.
Q) Can you share details about your character in “Pindam”?
A: I play Loknath, an investigator researching supernatural beings. The story involves my character meeting Easwari Rao, an expert in the subject, and unfolds across three different timelines.
Q) As a writer, did you contribute to the dialogues or script of “Pindam”?
A: I prefer learning from others on set rather than giving input. Observing the dialogue writing process on the set of Ravi Teja’s ‘Eagle’ was a valuable learning experience.
Q) What are your thoughts on the horror thriller genre?
A: Although I’m not a huge fan of horror thrillers, I was surprised by the audience’s response to “Prema Katha Chitram.” Horror genres tend to have a longer audience attention span compared to other films.
Q) Do you plan to direct a film similar to “Pindam” in the future?
A: I have a horror-comedy script but with emotional elements, not as intense as “Pindam.” It explores the unfulfilled desires of spirits.
Q) What trend do you think “Pindam” will set?
A: Sai Kiran is a passionate filmmaker, and I hope “Pindam” brings success to their team, encouraging more films in the future.
Q) You are seen frequently on screen. Any particular reason for this?
A: I’m involved in fewer projects, but those signed in the past are gradually releasing. I dedicate more time to script writing and ideation.
Q) Why should the audience watch “Pindam”?
A: Instead of urging audiences, I believe if they find the trailer appealing, they will naturally choose to watch it. I recommend watching Sai Kiran Daida’s short film “Smoke” as a preview; if impressed, “Pindam” will surely captivate you.
Q) What aspect of the film industry do you enjoy the most – writing, acting, or directing?
A: Writing provides complete freedom, acting involves contributing to someone else’s dream, and directing is about managing people. Each role has its challenges and rewards.
Q) Is writing for mainstream films or web series more challenging?
A: Writing for web series is challenging due to Tollywood’s adjustment to the format. Understanding the pacing differences between mainstream films and web series is crucial, but at their core, both involve similar character conflicts and design.
