In a recent statement, BRS (Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi) Working President KT Rama Rao has raised concerns about the potential of Hyderabad being declared a union territory by the BJP-led Centre after June 2. Rao highlighted that with June 2 marking the completion of a 10-year period since a significant political event, there are growing indications that both the BJP and the Congress may consider such a move.
Rao emphasized that while the Congress might not have the power to thwart the BJP-led Centre’s plans, the BRS could play a pivotal role in preventing such decisions by leveraging its voice in Parliament, provided it secures enough MPs. He underscored the importance of electing more BRS representatives to counter any attempts by the Centre to alter Hyderabad’s status.
Furthermore, Rao expressed concerns about the BJP’s alleged plans to abolish SC (Scheduled Caste) and ST (Scheduled Tribe) reservations if it were to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Additionally, he warned against the BJP’s purported intentions to divert Godavari water from Telangana to other states under the guise of river interlinking projects.
During a party meeting, Rao responded to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s remarks suggesting a political alliance between the BRS and BJP. Rao refuted these claims, questioning why the BJP would incarcerate MLC K Kavitha if such an alliance existed. He highlighted the BRS’s electoral victories against BJP candidates in recent Assembly polls and accused Revanth Reddy of fielding dummy candidates to aid BJP aspirants, implying a clandestine alliance between them.
Rao also referenced statements made by other political figures, such as Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and BJP MLA Bandi Sanjay, who had made commitments regarding their political futures based on BRS electoral outcomes. These statements underscored the intense political climate surrounding the upcoming elections and the stakes involved for all parties concerned.
As the political landscape in Telangana continues to evolve, Rao’s remarks shed light on the complex dynamics at play and the heightened tensions surrounding the impending electoral contest. With speculation rife about the fate of Hyderabad and the role of various political actors, the region remains a focal point of political maneuvering and contention.
