Yash Puri, known for his notable performances in ZEE5’s web film “Alanti Sitralu,” the comedy “Cheppalani Undhi,” and the recently released epic drama “Shaakuntalam,” is gearing up for the upcoming release of his film “Happy Ending.” Directed by Kowshik Bheemidi, this light-hearted coming-of-age tale has generated significant buzz with its intriguing promotional content. Apoorva Rao is cast as the female lead, and the film is being produced by Yogesh Kumar, Sanjay Reddy, and Anil Pallala under Hamstech Films and Silly Monks Studios. Today, director Kowshik Bheemidi shared insights with the media about the project.
Expressing his creative inspiration, Bheemidi shared, “I am attracted to films with a fresh and innovative approach, especially those exploring themes like marriage, similar to movies such as ‘Vicky Donor.’ The concept for ‘Happy Ending’ emerged while I was immersed in reading the Mahabharata and unraveling the multitude of curses within it. This sparked the idea of exploring how a contemporary young man would confront such a curse. While there have been Telugu films featuring curses in the past, none have been produced recently, prompting my focus on scriptwriting. Given the Puranic backdrop, I aimed to present the narrative in a modern and relatable manner to connect with the current generation. When I pitched the idea to Anil garu of Sillymonks, he found it compelling, and that’s how the project came to fruition.”
Bheemidi further discussed the casting and development of the film, stating, “Yash, our talented young hero, was introduced to me by Anil garu, and upon seeing him, I recognized that his potential aligned perfectly with the character in ‘Happy Ending.’ Yash resonated with the story, and that’s how the project took off. We envisioned this story for a theatrical experience rather than an OTT release, aiming to reach a broader audience. Although movies like ‘Vicky Donor’ explore adult themes, their treatment makes them accessible to all, and we sought to achieve the same with ‘Happy Ending.'”
Describing the essence of the film, Bheemidi explained, “‘Happy Ending’ is a romantic drama with a unique twist. The protagonist faces a curse, introducing a tragic element to the story, yet the audience will find moments of laughter. The intentionally unrevealed heroines play crucial roles in the narrative. Drawing inspiration from directors like K Vishwanath and Shekhar Kammula, I underscored the significance of female characters, providing substantial roles for the heroines. The story unfolds the journey of a young man cursed in childhood, falling in love, and navigating the consequences of the curse, delivering a distinct form of romance.”
Reflecting on his collaboration with new technicians, Bheemidi said, “As a first-time director, I found comfort working with relatively new technicians. Their fresh perspectives aligned with my ideas, and the collaborative process was smooth. For instance, music director Ravi listened to my diverse concepts and crafted music accordingly. The story is meticulously structured, with a compelling beginning, interval, and a satisfying climax where the hero is released from the curse. The climax includes a small recalling scene with a psychological drive, offering a novel cinematic experience. While Bollywood has experimented with similar storylines, the diverse taste of the Telugu audience and their appreciation for various genres motivated me to explore this concept.”
He continued by praising the cast, saying, “Both Yash and Apoorva were perfectly suited for their roles in ‘Happy Ending.’ We conducted workshops before the shoot, ensuring they were thoroughly familiar with the script. Their on-screen chemistry is fresh and satisfying, leaving me as a director thoroughly pleased with their performances. I believe ‘Happy Ending’ will resonate with audiences as a clean family entertainer, combining romance, tragedy, and a unique storytelling approach.”
The cast includes Ajay Ghosh, Vishnu, Jhansi, Anita Chaudhary, Harsh Roshan, Jiya Sharma, Vamsi Nekkanti, KMM Mani, Kamal Tumu, and Shweta, among others.
