The crucial phase of the Lok Sabha elections has begun. The Election Commission issued a notification today (April 18) for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, which will be held in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim assemblies along with 10 states. Lok Sabha elections are underway in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal, and Jammu & Kashmir. In total, polling will be conducted for 96 Lok Sabha seats across 10 states.
The nomination process for candidates begins today. Nominations will be accepted until April 25. Nomination acceptance will continue from 11 AM to 3 PM on subsequent days, excluding holidays. Nomination papers will be accepted at the collectorates for parliamentary constituencies and at the main centers for assembly constituencies. Lok Sabha candidates must deposit Rs. 25,000, while Assembly candidates must deposit Rs. 10,000 as security. SC and ST candidates can get relief if they deposit 50% of the amount.
Additionally, candidates with disabilities and those aged 85 and above have been provided with home voting facilities. They will exercise their vote on May 8. Moreover, nomination notifications for the subsequent elections are expected to be released today (Thursday), and the polling will continue until the completion of voting. They are scrutinizing nominations on April 26. The final list of candidates will be announced on April 29. The compilation of nominations is allowed until April 29. Polling will be held on May 13. The election results will be announced on June 4.
In regard to the use of election funds, authorities are closely monitoring bank accounts. They are scrutinizing accounts for transactions exceeding Rs. 1 lakh, including withdrawals and deposits. Authorities are also reviewing the information of those who have deposited more than Rs. 10 lakhs. If proper documentation is provided, the money will be returned.
