Speaking at an event to celebrate Balakrishna’s 50 years in cinema, Megastar Chiranjeevi said that he wants to do a faction movie with his colleague.
Back in the late 1990s, Balayya’s ‘Samara Simha Reddy’ birthed a certain trend in Telugu cinema. Movies revolving around factional feuds in Rayalaseema acquired glamour. ‘Narasimha Naidu’, another Balayya movie, became a bigger blockbuster. Director B Gopal and writers Paruchuri Brothers were commissioned by Chiranjeevi to write a Rayalaseema-based movie for him. ‘Indra’ came about and shook the industry. ‘Indra’ was a direct attempt by Chiru to enter the Balayya zone.
After Jr NTR’s ‘Aadi’, the trend was sought to be continued by VV Vinayak. ‘Chennakesava Reddy’ starred Balayya but it was not memorable.
Movies made by SS Rajamouli (‘Simhadri’) and Boyapati Sreenu (‘Simha’ and ‘Legend’) didn’t exactly fall in the broad category of the factionist movie genre.
If and when Chiranjeevi and Balayya join hands to do a factionalist action drama, it will be a moment to reckon with. But they must play their age.
