It was on this day (July 26th) in 2019 that ‘Dear Comrade’ arrived at the cinemas. Remembering the film, Mythri Movie Makers described it as a “passion film close to our hearts turns five”. At that time, the banner was very young.
“A film which has become a fan favourite post its release and is loved more and more as the years pass. The story, the music and the performances are dear to all of us. Thank you,” producers Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar wrote on social media.
Directed by Bharat Kamma, the Vijay Deverakonda-starrer was seen as overlong and stretched out by the audience. The second half, especially, was too long.
However, ‘Dear Comrade’ continues to be a favourite of many cinephiles. The chemistry between VD and Rashmika Mandanna, Justin Prabhakaran’s music, and the film’s message against sexual harassment continue to be lauded. Was it an underrated movie?
