JD Chekravarthy portrays a character in the Telugu-language sitcom Dayaa with the same deceptive identity as his criminal in the 1998 film Satya. Dayaa is as flexible as Satya is genuine – to a point.
Dayaa is the driver of a frozen fish transport van. When Dayaa discovers a body among the usual piscine produce, he realizes that nothing will ever be the same for him or his heavily pregnant wife Alivelu (Eesha Rebba).
Kavitha (Ramya Nambeesan), a fiery television journalist, owns the body. Flashbacks show Kavitha’s audacious attacks on the perverted politician Pritam (Babloo Prithiveeraj). Pritam (Nandagopal), his silent Anton Chigurh-like enforcer, is unable to work without making crude remarks or gestures, so he unleashes Kabir (Nandagopal) on Kavitha.
In the present, Dayaa is concerned about disposing of the corpse with the help of his buddy Prabha (Josh Ravi). Dayaa and Prabha, desperate to dodge the police, make a decision that has implications for them while also linking them to other characters, notably Kavitha’s crusading coworker Shabana (Vishnupriyaa Bhimeneni). A police officer with the aggressive demeanor of a quick case solver arrives looking all business but straggles several steps behind Dayaa and his group.
Dayaa, is now available on Disney+ Hotstar.
