Kamal Haasan starrer Indian 2, directed by Shankar, landed in a legal battle to ban the film over the usage of ‘Varma Kalai’. Varma Kalai is the martial art in Kerala.
The complaint was filed by Aasan Rajendran. Aasan trained Kamal Haasan on ‘Varma Kalai’ during the shoot of Indian (1996). The complainant claims that his martial art form was used for Indian 2 too without his permission. Therefore, he requested the Madurai District Court on July 9th to ‘ban the film on both theatres and OTT platforms’, according to ANI news reports.
Director Shankar mentioned that for Indian 2, they have consulted Prakasam Gurukkal for his expert advice on ‘Varma Kalai’, said Shankar in an interview with India Today. The judge of Madras District Court adjourned the hearing to 11th July after the makers of Indian 2 sought more time to give a response to Aasan Rajendran.
