Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Amaran’ is scheduled to arrive at the cinemas on October 31st. In Tamil, it faces competition from ‘Bloody Beggar’, ‘Lucky Baskhar’, and ‘Brother’. In Telugu, ‘Lucky Baskhar’ and ‘KA’ are its rivals.
The trailer of the movie, though, makes it a clear winner. Its content rivals the trailer of ‘Lucky Baskhar’ for sure. Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi are poised to deliver their best-ever performances, one hopes.
Amaran Trailer Praised for Balanced Patriotism and Realism by Tamil Audiences
The patriotism story is something Tamil audiences will enjoy more, considering we have seen Adivi Sesh’s ‘Major’ but they haven’t seen something equivalent. “It’s been ages since a Tamil film embraced patriotism this strongly. Based on what we see in the #AmaranTrailer, the makers have maintained balance in this biopic, refraining from exaggeration, and at the same time doing justice to all the real-life characters,” wrote Movie Crow.
Amaran’ Sparks Debate: Omission of Major Mukund’s Brahmin Identity Raises Questions
There is a bone of contention as well. The titular character’s religious identity is allegedly papered over. “Everything is fine but I am puzzled why the filmmakers chose not to portray Major Mukund Varadharajan’s Brahmin background, despite accurately depicting his Christian wife’s faith. Given Major Varadharajan’s Tamil Brahmin heritage, this omission seems deliberate,” laments a Netizen. The Tamil film industry has been accused of downplaying Brahmin identity for many years. The reason is said to be the domination of the Dravidian ideology. But then, we shouldn’t jump the gun. Wait for ‘Amaran’ to unfold on October 31st.
