Muthiah Muralidaran, the legendary off-spinner, is the only bowler in the history of International Test cricket to take 800 wickets. Movie Train Motion Pictures has made an authentic, grand sports-based film titled ‘800’ as his biopic. Madhur Mittal of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ fame is essaying the role of Muralidaran in the film. Mahima Nambiar plays Madhimalar Ramamurthy, the former cricketer’s wife, in it. Directed by MS Sripathy, the film is co-written by the Booker Prize (2022) laureate Shehan Karunatilaka.
Vivek Rangachari has produced the movie under Movie Train Motion Pictures. Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, the famous producer and the head of Sridevi Movies, has acquired the All-India theatrical rights. The makers are pleased to announce that the movie will be released in theatres on October 6th.
Speaking about the release, Sivalenka Krishna Prasad said, “We are releasing ‘800’ worldwide on October 6th in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The trailer, which was recently released at an event graced by ‘God Of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar as the chief guest, has received a tremendously huge response. Besides his cricketing greatness, Muthiah Muralidaran’s childhood events are going to ignite the audience’s interest a great deal. This is a film filled with human emotions and will appeal to all cricket lovers as well as the audience.”
Muthiah Muralidaran was reluctant about the biopic at first. However, director MS Sripathy’s persistence and novel writing convinced him. “He came all the way to Sri Lanka to meet me. He did the script work in detail for two years. I agreed for the biopic to be made because of his commitment and dedication levels. The shooting of the film was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I hope people will watch the movie for sure. I thank Sridevi Movies’ Sivalenka Krishna Prasad for releasing ‘800’.”
Sachin Tendulkar, speaking at the trailer launch event of ‘800’, said that Muthiah Muralidaran has climbed several heights in life and yet is humble. He added that everyone should know about his life.
