The seven-part American series of an Indian family in Pittsburgh streaming now on Amazon Prime Video is funny with its witty dark humour, only the plot could have been better.
Mahesh Pradeep is an Indian genius who gets a contract from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, only to be left abandoned by both SpaceX and a hospital where Sudha–his wife and mom of three teenagers– is about to become a doctor. But, both fail and are stuck with the family of Mills, American neighbours and their rivalry with Mills as the kids do naughty and mischievous antics throughout the series.
This show created by Vijal Patel, works better if it is taken light for the humour. The darkness of writing is not in the cussing, or the dark themes. The dark humour is slightly dark only in its wi that makes you chuckle but not triggers you. That’s the right sweet spot hit by the writers of the show.
The Pradeeps of Pittsbergh is about a dysfunctional family’s crazy fun ride that ends and unties all the family together, just as we hope and expect. As I said, the darkness of humour is only in the wit, not in the plot that runs from quirky garbage man to lessons of archery from ‘Bro-nacharya’ and of course the hormone-heavy sex references. Pradeep of Pittsbergh is a decent fun watch for th weekend.
