KCR’s flagship programme inspires Jagapathi Babu-Anasuya’s ‘Simbaa’
‘Simbaa’, starring Jagapathi Babu, Anasuya Bharadwaj, and Vasista Simha in different roles, is a message-oriented supernatural crime thriller slated to arrive at the cinemas on August 9th.
The movie is admittedly inspired by one of KCR’s flagship programmes. Haritha Haram, which set out to plant millions of saplings across Telangana, is one of the initiatives that has inspired ‘Simbaa’.
Vanajeevi Ramaiah, the Padma Shree recipient, is another apparent inspiration. The social worker is “estimated to have planted more than 100 thousand saplings in and around Khammam district”, as per Wikipedia.
The Haritha Haram initiative was popularized through the Green India Challenge for a few years. As per a report by The News Minute, “While the Telangana government spent Rs 8,511 crore on the project and surpassed the target to plant 230 crore trees by 2019, their true survival rate remains unknown, raising questions about its effectiveness.”
