‘Bhaje Vaayu Vegam’ is the title of one of the three releases of the week. What does the latest Tollywood release and the final release of the Summer vacation have in store? Let’s dive into the Telugu Funda review:
Story:
The story is set in Hyderabad, where two commoners and two powerful men come in direct confrontation with each other due to pressing circumstances. Venkat (Kartikeya Gummakonda) and Raju (Rahul Tyson of ‘Happy Days’ fame) are half-brothers whose ailing father (played by Tanikella Bharani) leaves them in the lurch. They need to mobilize Rs 20 lakh at the earliest to save him from imminent death. Venkat, a pro at cricket and IPL punting, resorts to betting during a key match. He wins but the promise made by the punter is not honoured. Had this been a crime comedy, the kind of characters and plot points would have been something else. But this is an emotional action thriller.
David (Ravi Shankar) is a mafiosi in his own right. His elder brother George (Sarath Lohithaswa) is a Mayor who dictates terms to the ruling party. David becomes desperate in a tricky situation and Venkat gets to play the cards. What are the circumstances and how do they play out? Will Venkat gain the upper hand?
Telugu Funda’s take on the key performances:
The good guys: Kartikeya is effective and also evokes sympathy in the role of a wronged underdog. Rahul Tyson’s way of delivery hasn’t improved much, though.
The bad guys: Ravi Shankar is an underrated performer. His screen presence hasn’t been tapped well by Telugu filmmakers. To an extent, ‘BVV’ does justice to him. Sarath Lohithaswa of ‘Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha’ fame gets less screen time relatively.
Others: Iswarya Menon is okay. Tanikella Bharani is melodramatic.
Telugu Funda’s take on the Technical output:
Music: Radhan’s two songs are passable. Kapil Kumar’s background score is not bad.
Cinematography: Not dull but not fab either.
Editing: Not a jet-speed thing but that’s due to the writing.

Telugu Funda’s take on the Positives:
‘BVV’ doesn’t waste the audience’s time. Right at the start, we see Kartikeya’s character lodged in a police station. The proceedings move on at a fairly good speed from hereon. Director Prashanth Reddy’s view was sorted. He wanted to build the emotional foundation in the first half. In the second half, the substantial part of the story takes place.
While the film is strictly above average, there are no over-stretched portions. That’s a major win in today’s times.
Telugu Funda’s view on the Negatives:
The treatment is not in tune with today’s times at times. The dramatization could have been more satisfying. The story had that potential. A deep-dive into the lead man’s psyche is absent. Secondly, the villain has been made to look like an inept individual. This is not done.
Telugu Funda’s Verdict:
‘Bhaje Vaayu Vegam’ is imperfect yet worth a watch!
