Hi Nanna: High on emotions, only in parts

Releasing on December 7, 2023, Hi Nanna has an ensemble cast featuring Nani, Mrunal Thakur, Baby Kiara Khanna, Jayaram, Priyadarshi, Nassar, Angad Bedi, among others. Directed by Shouryuv, the movie is produced by Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) and Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala. With music composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, the cinematography is handled by Sanu John Varghese, and the editing is skillfully executed by Praveen Antony. This collaboration of talent promises an engaging cinematic experience for the audience.

Plot:

Viraj, played by Nani, is a professional photographer who takes care of his 6-year-old daughter, Mahii (Baby Kaira Khanna). Even though Mahii keeps asking about her mom, Viraj doesn’t say anything. But later, he agrees to talk about his wife only if Mahii gets the top rank in her studies. Mahii succeeds, but Viraj doesn’t keep his promise. Feeling sad, Mahii decides to leave home. Yashna (Mrunal Thakur) comes to the rescue and saves Mahii from an accident. The movie tells the story of how Yashna brings positive changes to the lives of Viraj and Mahii.

Technical Aspects:

Hesham Abdul Wahab did a great job with the songs and background score, creating a wonderful musical experience. However, the Odiyamma song was unnecessary. 

The visuals by Sanu John Varghese are fantastic, and the production values are impressive. The editing is just average.

The storyline is interesting, and the dialogues have depth. While Shouryuv’s narrative is a bit slow, the movie features some emotional scenes. He managed to extract excellent performances from the actors. However, the movie’s length could have been shortened for a better impact.

The film “Hi Nanna” boasts a compelling storyline with ample opportunities for drama and emotional depth. Mrunal Thakur’s character serves as the heart and soul of the movie, impressively designed and showcasing the actress’s excellent script selection, reminiscent of her role in “Sita Ramam.” Performance-wise, Mrunal Thakur delivers a fabulous portrayal, while debutante Shouryuv adeptly handles emotional blocks. The film is enriched by emotional moments and well-crafted twists that add significant value to the narrative.

Nani effortlessly embodies characters like Viraj, effortlessly capturing hearts with his poignant performance. A particularly beautiful scene in the movie, where Nani converses with the heroine’s mother, exemplifies his natural acting prowess. The on-screen chemistry between Nani and Mrunal is superb.

Baby Kiara Khanna shines in her adorable role, delivering dialogues with confidence. Her scenes with Nani and Mrunal are well-executed, contributing to the overall appeal of the film. The concluding minutes of the movie leave a lasting impression. With the exception of the song “Odiyamma,” Hesham Abdul Wahab’s musical contribution is extraordinary. The soothing music and pleasing visuals serve to enhance the overall storytelling experience.

Telugu Funda Verdict:

“Hi Nanna” is a decent family drama with some touching emotional moments. Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Baby Kiara Khanna deliver good performances in their roles. The storyline and songs stand out as the movie’s major strengths. However, the pacing is a bit slow, and it might not appeal strongly to a mass audience. Certain parts could have been presented better. If you enjoy emotional dramas, you can consider watching this film comfortably over the weekend.
